Preble Street Resource Center
Location: Portland, ME
Architect: James Sterling, AIA
Photographer: Bernard Meyers
After a successful fundraising campaign, Preble Street Resource Center was able to upgrade and expand their facilities. The exterior underwent a transformation and parking was added for members of the staff. On the interior of the building, the pantry and dining facilities were expanded to make room for the 5,000 individuals and families that Preble Street serves each week. The project was recognized by the Maine Chapter of AIA for Excellence in Design. Wright-Ryan also converted the Casco Paper Box Building, an unused Portland Trolley repair facility, into a homeless teen center and free health clinic. The building was re-roofed and a courtyard was constructed at the entry of the shelter.
