Congregation Bet Ha’am
Location: South Portland, ME
Architect: Shim Sutcliffe
Photographer: Michael Barriault
Located in South Portland, Bet Ha’am is a Reform Jewish congregation, whose facility includes a synagogue and a religious school. To accommodate its growth, Bet Ha’am commissioned a major addition. The purpose of the new building complex was to reflect the congregation’s values: it is warm, open, welcoming, accessible, unpretentious, egalitarian, and spiritual. Our job was to develop cost effective approaches to implement the architect’s remarkable vision for a place of peace in an urban environment, while working within the confines of the congregation’s budget.
Our Millwork team combined intricate joinery, veneering and metalwork to execute pieces for the Congregation Bet Ha’am which included the Ark, Reading Table, Bench and Shelves. These signature pieces are a testament to the hard work and dedication to the trade of fine woodworking.
