University of Maine, Augusta (UMA) and its primary benefactor wanted a world-class facility on campus to promote education, exhibition, and advocacy to address the abuse of human rights. The architect of the facility won an international design competition with the design of this structure. The construction budget was extremely tight, with fundraising for the project continuing throughout the building process. Wright-Ryan Construction worked with the team to develop cost-effective building details and produced scale mock-ups of parabolic wall sections to test a variety of approaches.
